During the scene where Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell, breaks into an innocent woman’s home and assaults her with his friends, Kubrick struggled. Director Stanley Kubrick did not exactly like how this scene of A Clockwork Orange was turning out. It didn’t feel quite right, take after take. Alas, he instructed McDowell, “Just do whatever you want.” With this, Malcolm McDowell ended up breaking out into “Singing in the Rain.”

As many know, Stanley Kubrick adapted Full Metal Jacket from a screenplay he wrote. However, things went off his plan when he cast R. Lee Ermey. After watching a tape Ermey sent in of himself going off on some Marines, Kubrick knew he was the perfect match for the drill sergeant. Later on, Kubrick revealed that Ermey invented more than half his lines during the movie.
