Before the amazing Gene Wilder even read for his role as Willy Wonka, the director, Mel Stuart knew he wanted Wilder. Obviously, this gave Gene Wilder some wiggle room. Apparently, one of Gene Wilder’s important stipulations before accepting was that he be allowed to change his entrance. Now, that’s the most iconic part of the film. Yes, Gene Wilder invented the limping with a cane and then stumbling into that flawless summersault.

Sometimes, directors try to withhold info to get the most genuine reaction from their actors. Apparently, this happened during RoboCop when Kurtwood Smith’s character, Clarence Boddicker, was taken in by police once RoboCop beat him. Kurtwood Smith already spoke with Paul Verhoeven, the director, about maybe adding a line. They both agreed to surprise the cast with what Smith came up with. Thus, when Smith yelled, “Give me my f***in’ phone call!” everyone really was shocked.
