Maritime Wedding
The yacht, called the Ramblin’ Rose, was the venue for their wedding located in Paradise Cove close to Malibu. Guests joined them for the ceremony, and after the wedding they sailed to Santa Catalina Island for their honeymoon. Apparently her sister Lana’s husband sold wedding photos to tabloids, and Wagner was so enraged he didn’t speak to Lana for years afterwards. They had no idea how pivotal Santa Catalina would be for their story later on.
The Splendour
In 1975, Wagner decided to buy his own yacht. He bought the Challenger, but he and Natalie didn’t like that name and decided to renamed it to the Splendour, as an homage to a William Wordsworth poem that she loved. Others have speculated that it had a second meaning, as the word is in the title of her film Splendor in the Grass, the film she appeared in alongside Beatty, of the affair rumors. Could it have something to do with it?
