An Ill Fated Trip
The couple decided to take a luxury cruise trip on the Queen Elizabeth 2 together in 1972. They headed to Europe so Wagner could promote his film Madame Sin. However, things took a turn when an unexpected storm hit. Waves that were 70 feet high pummeled the ship, and they were trapped for four days. They luckily arrived on land safely, and the death-defying trip inspired them to throw caution to the wind and get married a second time.

Natalie Wood had previously mentioned being afraid of water, saying in an interview: “I’ve always been terrified, still am, of water—dark water, seawater,” and so their trip surely intensified these fears. However, strangely, despite her fears and the horrible experience, she and Wagner decided to borrow a yacht in order to tie the knot on it.
