Winky’s fast food chain opened up in 1962 after two brothers who started out as meat suppliers opened up a restaurant together. The Einstein brothers managed to open up 42 locations but in the 1980’s ended up filing for bankruptcy. The restaurant had a brief cameo in David Lynch’s film Mulholland Dr.

Childs

Childs opened up in 1889 and is often hailed as one of the very first restaurant chains in the U.S. Its first location opened up in New York City and later spread to 29 different cities. It did exceptionally well in the 1920’s and 30’s but by the 1960’s and decades of struggles, all of its locations shut down.
