Minnie Pearl’s Chicken opened up in 1960 and was name for a country comedian of the same name. The chain meant to compete with Kentucky Fried Chicken, then a new restaurant chain as well. While Minnie Pearl’s managed to open up 500 locations, eventually it couldn’t keep up with KFC and ended up in debt for over $1.2 million.

Wimpy, first called Wimpy’s Grill, opened up in 1934 with typical American fast food fare. It was estimated that within one year, Wimpy sold about 8 million burgers just in the Chicago area. It managed to spread to 27 locations but shut down when the restaurant owner died.
