Speaking of chocolate, there’s so much to reveal about his role as Willy Wonka, but more remarkably, Wilder was also just a wonderful person off camera too. In fact, Peter Ostrum (who played Charlie) said in the DVD commentary that often he would sit and have lunch with Wilder towards the end of filming each day. They would split a chocolate bar for dessert on their walk back to set. Aw!

Wilder never imagined that a movie with a song called “Springtime for Hitler” would ever get funded. However, he was completely overjoyed to hear The Producers had been financed. Now, at this point, he already had the role of Leo Bloom. When he heard Brooks got the money for the film, Wilder broke down and cried.
