Just as Wilder passed on, he was listening to one of his all-time favorite songs. In August 2016, Wilder died surrounded by his family in his Stamford home. In the statement released by his family, they revealed that “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Ella Fitzgerald was playing as he passed. Earlier in his life, Wilder had the fortune of meeting Ella Fitzgerald at a restaurant in London.

Well, Mel Brooks knew exactly how to coax a brilliant performance. Brooks gave the star black coffee and 18 chocolate bars before they shot the scene! So, yes Wilder was very high on caffeine.
