New Direction
During his time studying at HB Studio, Wilder met his first wife and some other very influential figures. Wilder studied for three years with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof. It was after these three years that Charles Grodin introduced Lee Strasberg’s method acting to Wilder. Grodin even convinced Wilder to leave HB. Thus, Gene Wilder began his studies with in a private class with Strasberg.
Busy Guy
From there, Wilder began touring the country, traveling with different theater productions. He even starred in a CBS presentation of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. It was this new route that led Wilder into his first film role in Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde.
