Father Figure
During The Woman in Red, the film Wilder directed and starred in, he became close with costar Kelly Le Brock. The two stayed very close over the years and Wilder became like a father to her. After his death, she wrote an obituary for him in The Guardian talking about the continuous encouragement and support she received from him. She said she would forever remember him for, “the loveliness of his whole being.”

As a loyal Democrat, Gene Wilder often engaged in liberal politics over the course of his life. He was very outspoken against both the Vietnam and Iraq Wars. Then in 2007, he donated thousands to Barack Obama’s campaign for president.
