Black Locust Tree

The black locust produces beautiful and fragrant flower clusters. Since these trees are so lovely, they are tempting to plant, but they have a tendency to spread very fast and aggressively. Their branches have spiky thorns on them. Additionally, the flowers eventually drop, creating a big mess. There are some states that actually prohibit the planting of this tree.

The buckthorn tree has become an issue for large swaths of the United States, in areas including the Northeast, Midwest, and the West, where it has truly become an invasive species. These trees grow in clusters and can reach up to 25 feet in height. They destroy anything in their wake, in areas including prairies, woodlands, meadows, and open fields.
