Taxi Driver
Quick, what’s the first line you think of when you hear Scorese’s Taxi Driver mentioned? Of course, you hear De Niro asking, “You talkin’ to me?” Turns out, that was never written in the original script. The stage direction just said De Niro’s character should look into the mirror. Well, technically, is said, “Bickle speaks to himself in the mirror.” Then, Martin Scorcese just allowed De Niro to improvise and there you have it.
The Warriors
We all remember David Patrick Kelly’s remarkable performance as Luther in The Warriors. Yes if you’re thinking of the famous, “Warriors, come out to play!” line, you’re right on the mark. That was never in the script. Yet, Kelly improvised and even repeated that line another time while clawing three bottles in one hand. It’s no wonder why the director kept this moment in the film!
