An Investigation Begins

Wagner was interviewed by police twice, and he reported that Wood had gone to bed early and when he went to check on her, she was not in her bed. The first interview with Wagner had to be cut short due to his emotions, but during the second interview, he said that after he checked on her and saw that she was missing from her room, he noticed Walken on the deck. Was he trying to implicate Walken and clear his own name? Of course, many details didn’t add up. Wood was terrified of water, and why would she try to get onto the dinghy at night?

The Famous Coroner

Dr. Thomas Noguchi was the coroner involved in the case, and he reported that according to his findings, Wood had consumed about seven or eight glasses of wine on the night she died. He said that some of the bruises could have been caused by a fall, but some thought it was odd that the doctor seemed to downplay her high alcohol level and injuries, as though he was trying to downplay any involvement that could be attributed to Wager. It turns out that Noguchi was also involved in the autopsy for William Holden, and that apparently he divulged too much information about how much alcohol was found in Holden’s system, so he was trying to avoid this mistake again.
