Night Shyamalan was given the chance to direct the film even though his previous few films had completely flopped. Jennifer Lawrence as Joy Mangano – Joy
While Jennifer Lawrence’s performance was actually nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role as Joy Mangano in Joy, many felt that the actress was simply too young to portray Mangano, who in real life was a divorced mom of two who was definitely older than Lawrence when she portrayed her.
