Wool Weighed Her Down
All of the experts say that the wool jacket’s weight made her drown. There’s some evidence that she attempted to climb into the dinghy, but the wool pulled her back down. In addition, her high BAC level might have impaired her abilities. If she was sober, she might have realized she should shed the jacket to help aid her climb into the dingy.

While being interviewed with the police, Davern explained that the group kept drinking heavily after getting back to the boat from dinner. Davern reported about Wood and Walken, saying, “So we’re sitting there, and Chris and Natalie are giggling and carrying on, the same as before, totally forgetting that me and [Wagner] are there. I’m saying to myself, ‘Oh my God, this is getting to be too much right now.’ Then he added, “All of a sudden [Wagner] grabbed a bottle of wine and smashes it right on the table in front of them. Glass goes flying all over.”
