Christine Jorgensen is thought to be the first person to undergo gender reassignment surgery ever. She traveled to Denmark, which at the time was the only country that was performing the surgeries. When she came back to New York, she was met was a lot of interest and thus was thrown into the spotlight.

She also starred in Romy and Michelle: In The Beginning, ER, How To Get Away With Murder, and Grey’s Anatomy. She received the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award in 2016.
