She Eventually Lost Her Crown
While Rousey was an absolute trailblazer in the UFC, her success eventually caught up with her. She faced Holly Holm in Melbourne for what was to be her seventh defense of the UFC Women’s Bantamweight belt. Holm did to Rousey what nobody else had ever managed; not only did she beat Rousey, but she put on a masterclass, embarrassing the former Olympian before knocking her out with a kick to the head.
Her Loss Crushed Her, But She Came Back Stronger
As someone who has struggled with depression, as well as being a true perfectionist, the loss was incredibly difficult for Rousey to swallow. She went on the Ellen Show sometime after, and disclosed during her interview that she had experienced feeling worthless and even thoughts of suicide after her loss. She said her relationship with her partner, Travis Browne, was incredibly helpful for her to get through this period, and she came back stronger than ever, retiring from MMA to join the WWE.
