No Women in the UFC?

Before Rousey’s rise to fame, thanks to her incredible judo skills which she used so well in MMA, the president of the UFC, Dana White, claimed that women would ‘never’ be a part of the UFC. Rousey’s talent was undeniable, however, as she easily ran through all the opponents she fought in other MMA promotions, and never lost a fight, or even took a step backwards in the octagon. Her rise to fame was so meteoric that the UFC essentially opened a women’s bantamweight division, just so she could compete in the organization.

She Was an Olympian

Before she had even started training in MMA, Rousey was a judo practitioner at the highest level. Rousey was even on the USA Olympic Team, despite only having begun training judo at age 11. She had to stop training with her mother, because she broke her mom’s wrist when they were training together when she was just 13! At 17, she qualified for the Olympics for the first time, competing in Athens. She eventually won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, though Rousey has since said she is disappointed in herself for not doing better.
