An Envoy for the Less Fortunate
While she is a household name thanks to her powerful performances in many different movies, and has even won an Oscar for her role in Girl, Interrupted, Angelina Jolie is also a passionate human rights activist. The United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees made her their Special Envoy in 2012, and she was previously a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations’ Human Rights council from 2001-2012. Jolie also performed extensive fieldwork with the organization.
Jolie Wants the Best for Everyone
Part of her philanthropic work has been pushing for equality of access to education, especially for refugees and children from developing nations. She has funded a boarding school for girls in Kenya, and similar establishments in Afghanistan. In 2006, Jolie also opened a facility in Cambodia to help with the medical and educational needs of children affected by HIV. Her actions show that she is a really caring person who wants to help the world become a better place.
