The fact that Sam was always a perfectionist contributed to him being his own biggest critic. He knew that in order for him to achieve greatness, he had to be one. Hence, he made sure things were done correctly and held high standards for himself. He took creative control in rewriting the screenplays and occasionally had disagreements with the directors.

Sam’s love for the Western culture made him unique in how he portrayed himself both on and off screen. He has noted that it all boiled down to integrity, honor, and similar values. He said he liked how the values in those movies were old school and distinctive.
