The Terminator

In another James Cameron film, The Terminator, he allowed a totally unscripted moment to make the final cut. It was a smart move on Cameron’s part since this line became one of the most quoted. So when Arnold Schwarzenegger is not allowed into the police station, the script simply said for the cyborg to leave in disappointment. However, Schwarzenegger had a stroke of genius when he went off script to say to the office, “I’ll be back.” Since Cameron loved this so much, he included what was supposed to be a minor character in the rest of his film and its sequels!

Citizen Kane

The film of all films, Citizen Kane defined the movie industry and continues to shape movies. Since Orson Wells wrote the film, directed it and also starred in it, we can forgive him for butchering his character’s single line in the opening scene. Wells came out with, “Rosebud,” and not the scripted line of, “No, my sled…” Orson Wells recognized this flubbed line created intrigue and tension, and now, it’s part of cinematic history!
