During World War II (1938 to be exact) Sir John Anderson had to prepare his county for war. He needed a strategy to protect the citizens from bombings, so he decided to devise a genius plan to do that!
Backyard Shelters
Sir John and his engineers created simple and cheap underground shelters that people could bury in their backyards. Since they were close, British citizens could get to shelter immediately. The structures were made from flexible and lightweight material, but Simon didn’t find one of them!
