Despite Wayne not partaking in the war effort, he made many hypocritical comments. At the height of the Vietnam War, he was allegedly heard calling men who didn’t enlist ‘soft.’ Although the actor was too old to fight in Vietnam, he hadn’t taken part in WWII when he was of age.

John Wayne created and starred in a film in 1968 called The Green Berets. It was argued that this work was nothing more than propaganda, and this statement might have some truth considering the Pentagon had authority over the film’s script.
