Early Retirement
As we alluded to, Macaualay and his father had a complicated relationship. During 1995, Culkin’s parents were in the midst of a custody battle over the children. Patricia, his mother, used Kit’s drinking and questionable behavior against him in the fight, claiming he was not fit as a parent. Although he helped Macaulay book back to back gigs, it proved to be too much for the young star who seemed to burn out. Thus, Macaulay retired at the young age of 14 and became estranged from his father.

Thus, Macaulay began to recede to the background after 1994. He hoped to live a normal life away from the intensive scheduling in Hollywood. After some time though, he would make a come back but with a new image. He desperately hoped to separate himself from the cute child typecast, but first, he would have to conquer some troubles.
