USS New York
During World War II, the USS New York was a convoy escort and saw combat during Operation Torch. Later, she went to the Pacific. After getting repaired in Pearl Harbor, she was considered obsolete and helped with nuclear tests. Surviving both explosions, she was studied for two years and then sunk in 1948.
USS Nevada
After serving in World War II, the USS Nevada was found to be too old to be used as the active fleet. The Navy chose to use her for atomic experiences at Bikini Atoll. It was hit from the blast and left radioactive and badly damaged. She was decommissioned and then sunk in July 1948.
