The USS Alabama spent seven years in the North Atlantic Fleet and handled peacetime training. Then, she visited Europe and was part of a cruise until her machinery damage forced her to leave. From there, she continued to World War I and was made to do bombing tests, sinking in September of 1921.

After entering service in 1897, the Iowa handled training operations, moving to the Caribbean in 1898 when tension between Spain and the US grew. It was part of many bombardments and patrolled the harbor. Finally, she was used for bombing experiments and sunk in 1921.
