From the LA County Sheriff’s Department, detective Duane Rasure was brought in to investigate the case. In 2012, he told 48 Hours, “It was an accidental drowning, she just happened to be a famous movie star. She was a small lady. She drowned in short time, I’d say.” In addition, he spoke ill of Davern, claiming, “He’s just made himself to look good in his book…And obviously, he’s trying to sell a book and make money off of it. And I think that’s the whole purpose behind his writing this book.”
