Going to the gym is difficult for everyone. Finding the motivation is one thing, but perhaps the most troublesome aspect for most people is finding the time, particularly every single day. For those of us without children, heading to the gym is tough, but for people who do have kids, it can mean sometimes sacrificing “me-time” at the gym in order to take care of a child.
Many gyms are becoming aware of the situation and have decided to provide childcare at their facilities in order to make it easier for parents to take some time taking care of themselves, which in turn helps parents better take care of their kids.
Leah Segedie, who founded Mamavation.com and is wrote Green Enough: Eat Better, Live Cleaner, Be Happier (All Without Driving Your Family Crazy!), weight in on the matter:
“Most people have no time for the gym already, but that is especially true of moms. Time is one resource we can’t get back. Gyms that have childcare are respecting and valuing motherhood in general because it’s a recognition that we need support to be included. It opens the door so we can walk through.”
Here are some gyms that have incorporated childcare as a part of their organization in order to help parents out.
The YMCA
The YMCA has always been a family-friendly place, and continues to this day to provide free childcare. That way, members who have children can work out, take a group fitness class, or take a swim in the pool without having to worry about their children.

The club offers over 200 workout classes, but also provide a sports club for kids, as well as swimming lessons and camps for young kids to stay occupied. For even younger children (between ages 3-10), there are babysitters available.
LA Fitness
LA Fitness has a designated kids club play area called “Kids Klub”, complete with babysitters who have all passed background checks. There’s also an app that will notify a parent who is working out if they are needed, giving parents the peace of mind that even if their child needs them, they will quickly be notified.
24 Hour Fitness
24 Hour Fitness provides entertainment for kids that include arts & crafts and active games at a kids’ club with a staff of attendants. This way, your child will stay entertained while you get your workout in, stress-free.
One Life Fitness
For parents living in Maryland, Georgia, and Virginia, One Life Fitness is a great option, as they provide playrooms for kids to play in. They ensure that the playrooms are safe and stay sanitary as well.
