Accidents Happen
Unfortunately, New Zealand runner Nikki Hamblin had an accident during the 5,000 meters race in Rio. Sadly, she tripped and fell to the ground. Though, on her way down, she also took down American Abbey D’Agostino by accident. Clearly, this ruined both their chances for placing. One might expect an angry reaction especially from D’Agostino. However, that was not the case.

Their reactions to this collision made headlines worldwide. Hamblin and D’Agostino helped each other back up. Tragically, D’Agostino tore her anterior cruciate knee ligament. Yet, both runners finished the race. Thus, they were given places in the final. D’Agostino could not compete with her injury and even had to be wheeled away. However, it was the heartwarming sportsmanship that really stuck with Olympic fans across the globe!
